Over and over in my conversations with investment groups and teams from across the globe, I get asked “Why Austin?” The responses are always telling: “It’s on my list of places to visit,” “I hear it’s nice there,” or simply “Interesting choice.” The answer runs deeper than spreadsheets and market analyses. This city shaped who I am as an entrepreneur, and now it’s where we’re building the future of professional sports travel through wellness-focused aviation technology.
Austin: Turning Visions Into Reality
Austin holds a special place in my heart because it’s where I learned that anything is possible if you put your head down and grind. Right out of graduating from Baylor just up the highway, I spent nearly a year couch surfing throughout the city while launching my first startup in 2015, experiencing firsthand Austin’s incredible entrepreneurial spirit.

Those months taught me that Austin actively embraces ambitious dreamers. During those couch surfing days, I discovered Austin’s incredible outdoor spaces and coffee culture. Whether I was brainstorming at Cosmic Coffee on South First, taking calls while walking the trails around Town Lake, or finding clarity during afternoon swims at Barton Springs, the city provided endless inspiration.
My first office was in the co-working spaces at Capital Factory, where I quickly learned that surrounding yourself with like-minded people helps more than imaginable during the sometimes lonely days of being a startup founder. Earlier this week, I read a post from a young entrepreneur who made a similar journey to Austin, grinding through months of uncertainty at Capital Factory, and it reminded me why this city’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is so special. Austin’s natural beauty, thriving coffee scene, and collaborative startup environment created the perfect ecosystem for deep thinking and creative problem solving.
Austin’s “Keep Austin Weird” mentality celebrates bold, innovative thinking. This environment shaped my entrepreneurial approach and continues to drive Roc Aero’s mission to challenge conventional aviation and reimagine how elite athletes travel.
Aviation Runs in My Blood
Austin always had a magnetism to me. When I would drive from San Antonio to Waco for school, I would always drive through Austin intentionally because it made me dream of what could be. Beyond my entrepreneurial journey in Austin, aviation excellence has been part of my life since childhood. I spent most of my life within 20 miles of Interstate 35, watching my father work in the aviation industry that thrives throughout this incredible corridor. From San Antonio up to Wichita, I witnessed firsthand how this stretch of America became home to dozens of aviation companies and some of the most brilliant minds in aerospace.
Boeing’s operations in San Antonio, Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation in Wichita, and countless specialized manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers in between created an ecosystem I grew up understanding. These weren’t just companies to me; they were the places where innovation happened daily, where engineers solved impossible problems, and where the future of flight took shape.
That childhood immersion in aviation excellence along the I-35 corridor gave me something invaluable: an intuitive understanding of what makes great aviation companies tick. I witnessed engineers sitting in rooms full of computers working on CAD drawings, walked through cabinet shops where skilled craftsmen turned raw materials and drawings into incredible fixtures for aircraft, then stepped onto hangar floors as teams integrated those components into finalized flying works of art. When we set out to revolutionize professional sports travel, I knew exactly where this vision needed to take root.

The Perfect Convergence of Vision, Infrastructure, and Culture
Years later, as I set out to build Roc Aero, those formative experiences in Austin converged with my aviation roots in ways I never could have imagined. The same city where I learned to turn bold ideas into reality now houses a constellation of aerospace and technology giants like Tesla, Oracle, Meta, SpaceX, Firefly Aerospace, and Slingshot. What started as personal survival during couch surfing days had evolved into the perfect strategic foundation for revolutionizing professional sports travel.
The city’s tech ecosystem extends far beyond individual companies. Austin hosts numerous capital investment firms and venture capital groups like ATX Venture Partners, Silverton Partners, LiveOak Venture Partners, and startup accelerators including Capital Factory that understand deep technology and scalable business models. The massive talent pipeline from Texas universities like UT Austin, Rice, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas State, and Texas Tech continuously feeds this ecosystem with brilliant minds in engineering, computer science, and business.
Austin’s welcoming, diverse culture and incredible quality of life offerings attract top talent from around the world, creating a truly global innovation hub in the heart of Texas. The city hosts world-class events like Formula 1’s Circuit of the Americas, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits, and countless entertainment venues that bring people from across the globe directly to us. These events create natural opportunities to demonstrate Roc Aero’s capabilities while connecting us with our target market of elite athletes, entertainment industry professionals, and high-performance teams.
Through our Innovations Lab, we’re establishing advanced materials manufacturing and customization capabilities that will bring additional capacity to this thriving aerospace ecosystem. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport provides exceptional connectivity to both domestic sports markets and international destinations, while Texas’s business-friendly environment and absence of state income tax accelerate our growth trajectory.
Austin’s direct flights to major global markets position us perfectly for international expansion across Europe, Asia, and Australia while maintaining seamless connectivity to domestic sports markets.
